Useful Techniques to Limit Information Overload

Hi Gang, as a follow up to the YouTube video, 6 Things I Gave Up to Simplify My Life. Here are the exact steps that I took to purge bad/useless information from my life. Some of these might not be right for you, but many of these will be spot on.

PHONE RELATED

Turned off all notifications on my phone.

Deleted the News App from my iPhone

I put all apps that are designed to keep you going deeper and deeper in the app in separate folder on the phone.

Installed a spam call killer on the phone (most phone companies have this, there are also good Apps)

Put my phone away from the nightstand at night but still accessible in case an emergency phone call comes through

COMPUTER RELATED

Set up a separate email for “junk” eg. Sordes@Example.com

On main email account, I turned off notifications

My laptop does not enter rooms where it should not be used.

OTHER

Limit “live television” to certain times during the day

Use the newspaper (even digital) as my main source of non-research related information. Note WSJ (no affiliation) has an online “paper edition” which is the exact format as the hard copy edition.

Use non-party leaning news sources like the Economist, BBC News, etc. to source other information

Remove news stations from my channel list on my car
